Dimitar Kirov
1935–2008

Dimitar Kirov was born on May 20, 1935 in Istanbul. He graduated from the Academy of Arts, majoring in Monumental and Decorative Painting and Mosaic Art under Prof. Georgi Bogdanov (1959). He worked in the fields of easel painting, monumental art (mural, fresco, secco, mosaic, sgraffito), drawing and illustration, graphics and scenography. Some of his best works are dedicated to Plovdiv. He participated in collective art exhibitions and representative exhibitions of Bulgarian art abroad. He displayed his work in numerous solo exhibitions in Plovdiv (1964, 1967, 1968, 1985), Paris (1969), Okayama (1975), Tokyo (1977), and Sofia (1973, 1980). Works by Dimitar Kirov are in the possession of museums and private collections in Bulgaria and worldwide: the Vatican, St. Petersburg, Prague, Dresden, Fukuyama, Stockholm, Istanbul, Munich, Cologne, Moscow, Yerevan, Tbilisi, etc. Dimitar Kirov passed away in 2008 in Plovdiv.
